THROW YOUR ZULU IN THE SKY
Not sure how HBE kept playing when Mos Def rushed the stage at the Lion's Den on Sunday night but they did it...and did it well. Mos came thru and freestyled to a handful of original HYPNOTIC songs...in between playing tambourine and agogo bells. And yes that's Spanish he's tossing out in the clip above. ¡Brooklyn presente!
Near the end of the first set Mos rocked through "Balicky Bon" as LT pumped the tuba on one end of the stage while Smoove throttled the mic with a trumpet solo at the other.
PS Peep the T Shirts...might be time to get this e-merch poppin. Stay tuned!

LET'S REVIEW PART I
Journalists like to describe a piece like this as "above the fold" and that's a good description of the HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE. Gotta turn up a cached version of this article somewhere so you dont have to pay $4.95 for it, but Lily Koppel did a good job of putting together a story on HYPNOTIC—the band doing its thing on the streets of New York, its Chicago roots and its mindblowing musical lineage...plus all the nicknames! It'd be easy to link all stuff now but if you knew everything up front maybe you wouldn't take the journey with us. And we wouldn't want you to miss is. Trust.
More to come. In the meantime here's Jigar Mehta of the crackerjack NYT video department bringing the story to life.
